Description

Built by acclaimed luthiers Steve Klein and Steve Kauffman, this 2020 Klein & Kauffman 396L represents a refined approach to boutique acoustic design. The 396L takes their long-established small-body platform and pairs it with a slimmer body depth for a more intimate feel, quicker response, and exceptional tonal immediacy.

This example pairs an Engelmann spruce top with Indian rosewood back and sides, delivering rich harmonic complexity, articulate mids, and a responsive touch suited for both fingerstyle and dynamic flatpicking. Finished in a subtle light sunburst and nitrocellulose lacquer, the guitar offers boutique craftsmanship throughout with understated elegance.

A standout feature is Klein & Kauffman’s magnetic side access panel, which opens from the treble side to provide quick access to the interior for maintenance, pickup installation, and string changes through the bridge system. This guitar currently has no pickup installed, though installation options are available upon request.

This used example remains in excellent overall condition with some visible top marks, including a few impressions into the wood, while remaining exceptionally clean throughout. Includes the original custom Ameritage hardshell case.
