Description
This rare Martin Style 3 ukulele from the 1930s is crafted from all-koa wood, showcasing the brand’s finest early designs. The Style 3 features elaborate ornamentation, including seven-ply top binding and inlaid bone (or celluloid) accents on the body and headstock. The fingerboard stands out with paired diamond inlays at frets 5, 7, and 9, along with three pinstripe lines down the center, setting it apart from the simpler dot inlays of the Style 1 and 2 models.
Martin introduced koa models to fulfill special orders, and the 3K is the pinnacle of their koa ukulele craftsmanship. This instrument exhibits the natural patina and minor wear expected from a nearly century-old instrument, including some cracks visible in close-up photos, yet it plays beautifully with a rich, full tone. A vintage case is included, though the latches do not securely close.
