Heid Music's Rock U

A fun, interactive summer camp for young rockers!

When: August 3-7, 2020 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Where: Xavier Middle School (2626 N. Oneida St., Appleton)
Final Concert: August 7, 6:00 p.m. @ OuterEdge Stage (303 N Oneida St)
Have you ever wanted to join a band but didn’t know where to start? 
Then Rock University is the perfect place for you!
Rock U aspires to take you from the practice room to the classroom and ultimately the stage. Learn from exceptional teachers, musicians and music-industry specialists, including Mile of Music original artists.
Campers gain the skills to create, communicate, rehearse and prepare for performances with a band. This thrilling, jam-packed, rockin’ camp week equips them with the tools to be the musician they want to become!
Parents, too, will benefit from this affordable summer camp that encourages new friendships, interactive learning, social skills and more.

Camp Highlights

Students will spend each day of camp rehearsing, participating in discussions, and attending workshops to prepare for a live rock performance, complete photo session. Workshops led by Rock U professors, local musicians, Heid Music staff and industry experts
  • Instrument breakout sessions
  • Rock theory and history
  • Marketing, including photoshoot and logo design
  • Songwriting
  • Performance skills
  • And more!

Admission Requirements

  • Ages 11-18 (exceptions made on a case-by-case basis)
  • Basic skill level on instrument, minimum 1 year of lessons
  • Guitar, bass, drums, piano/keys, vocalists and non-traditional rock instruments (including but not limited to violin, saxophone, trumpet, etc.)
  • Extrance exams audition is required (held pre-camp)
    • Exam time options: July 15, 5-8 p.m. or July 17, 3-6 p.m. at Heid Music Appleton (308 E. College Ave.). Exam used to determine band formation based on experience, interests, etc. Prepare a two minute song or portion of a song. Please bring your own instrument (except keyboardists and drummers).

Enrollment Dates & Prices

  • Early Bird: $260, enrollment deadline June 5 EXTENDED TO JUNE 15
  • Standard: $280, enrollment deadline July 10
  • No refunds after 7/13

Additional Safety Precautions due to COVID-19

  • No equipment shared between students
  • Camp day may be slightly modified to cut down on the number of students in the building or sessions modified to limit number of attendees at one time
  • Students and instructors will be requested to wear facemasks as much as possible
  • Social distancing recommendations will be followed as much as possible
  • Cleaning and sanitization will be conducted frequently throughout the day
  • Students and instructors are requested to respect the health and safety protocols put forth by the CDC
  • Final concert will be offered live-streamed

If camp needs to be cancelled due to state orders, full refunds will be provided.
