This finely made viola bow by Marcel LaPierre represents the highly regarded period of his independent work following his return to Mirecourt. Featuring a classic ivory frog and silver tip, the bow reflects LaPierre’s close association with the great French bow-making tradition shaped by makers such as Ouchard, Lotte, and the Bazin family. His bows from this era are especially admired for their elegant, squarish head design, refined balance, and clear, responsive playing characteristics.
LaPierre trained and worked across many of the most important Mirecourt workshops of the 20th century before establishing his own shop, where he produced bows well into the 1970s. This example showcases the craftsmanship and musicality that make his earlier work particularly desirable for violists seeking a nuanced, articulate bow with historical significance.
