Ron C.

Trumpet

Offering in-person instruction

I'm Dr. Ron Cole, an accomplished trumpeter with a deep passion for music. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance from the University of Washington, as well as a Master of Music (Performance) and a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Studies) from Western Washington University.

My musical journey has been diverse and rewarding, with performances in a wide range of contexts. From sharing the stage with great artists like Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Amy Grant, and Michael W. Smith, to playing with esteemed orchestras like the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, Cascade Symphony Orchestra, and the Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra, I've had the privilege of making music in many settings. Additionally, I've been part of various studio sessions, contributing to iconic shows like Hawaii 5-0 and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Alongside my performing career, I'm a dedicated educator. I've served on the faculties of Olympic College, Music Works Northwest, and Northwest University, guiding and inspiring aspiring musicians to reach their full potential.

Another aspect of my musical journey involves composing. My compositions have found their way into the repertoires of various jazz ensembles, as well as being featured in the video game Infinite Scuba.

Not currently accepting new students

Hi, I'm Ken! I hold a B.A. from St. Norbert, and I pursued my passion for music further with a Master's Degree in Music Performance from Northwestern University, followed by Doctoral Studies at the same institution. With over thirty-seven years of experience, I recently retired from teaching 5-12 grade band and general music at West De Pere Public Schools.

Throughout my career, I've been actively involved in the music community. I am a master adjudicator for WSMA Music Festivals, and I've been judging district and state festivals since 1972. Additionally, I've had the honor of serving on the board for secondary music education with the Wisconsin School Music Association.

Music has been an integral part of my life, and I've had some incredible opportunities to perform with various groups. For over twenty years, I've been a proud member of the Green Bay Packer Band, bringing music and excitement to the fans. Furthermore, I had the privilege of leading one of the tailgate bands for nine years.

When not playing with other ensembles, I lead my own jazz band called The River City Six. The joy of music doesn't stop there, as I also serve as the director of the De Pere City Band, where we bring the community together through music.

Low Brass

Offering in-person instruction

Hello, I'm Ryan Saladin, a passionate performing and teaching artist with a love for low brass instruments. Currently, I split my time between the beautiful Fox Valley region in Wisconsin and the vibrant city of Detroit, Michigan. If you're interested in learning trombone, euphonium/baritone, or tuba, I'm thrilled to accept students of all levels, from beginners to advanced players.

My musical journey has led me to explore a wide range of genres. I feel at home in classical, contemporary, jazz, and popular music settings, and I love helping my students discover the joy and versatility of low brass instruments in different musical contexts.

I'm currently in my fifth and final year as a student at Lawrence University, where I've had the honor of performing with various ensembles. On trombone, I've been a part of Lawrence's Symphony Orchestra, New Music Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble. On euphonium, I've enjoyed playing with Lawrence's Symphonic Band and Graduation Weekend Band. Additionally, I've had the privilege of substituting with the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra and mentoring young musicians with the Oshkosh Youth Symphony Orchestra. My freelance work allows me to immerse myself in the vibrant music scenes of both the Fox Valley and metro-Detroit regions.

Teaching is a true passion of mine, and I've been sharing my knowledge and expertise for six years now. I've had the opportunity to teach at different locations, including my own studio, Studio 313 in Plymouth, MI, and currently, at Heid Music Green Bay. I've also participated in performance workshops like the Third Coast Trombone Retreat, the Metro-Detroit Jazz Workshop, the DC Trombone Workshop, and the Atlantic Brass Quintet Summer Seminar, which have enriched my skills as both a performer and a teacher.

At Lawrence University, I'm pursuing bachelor's degrees in trombone performance and neuroscience, balancing my love for music with my curiosity for the human mind. Along my musical journey, I've had the privilege of studying with renowned pedagogues from across the country, expanding my knowledge and honing my craft.
