Description

Serial Number: 89398
This 1929 Gibson L-4 represents an early round-soundhole example, featuring a carved spruce top with maple back and sides. The guitar retains its original finish throughout, with no major structural repairs. Fret wear is minor and consistent with age. This guitar features a patent-pending Vibrola tailpiece, though the tremolo arm is missing.

Construction includes a mahogany neck paired with a rosewood fingerboard and dot inlays. The body follows Gibson’s traditional 16" archtop format with a carved top and arched maple back. Hardware and appointments are period-correct, and the instrument is housed in a 1960s yellow/orange fur lined Gibson case (most likely for a 175 or similar guitar).

This instrument displays strong structural stability and maintains originality across key components, making it a great acquisition for archtop collectors seeking an intact pre-war Gibson.

This guitar comes from the daughter of the original owner and has a rich history of being played often in Milwaukee, WI.
