Two Army Band veterans built a home for musicians.
Peter “Duke” (Papa) Heid, a musician himself, founded Heid Music in 1948. During the debut year of the company’s operation, Peter welcomed a partnership with Gerald “Buck” Jensen, who, like Peter, was a veteran of the United States Army Band. The original store location was in the 300 block of West College Avenue, in Appleton.
Three generations of music and community
In 1957, Heid Music moved to 308 E. College Avenue in Appleton—the landmark location we still call home. Since the 1970s, we’ve grown into a full-service music destination offering band and orchestra instruments, guitars, drums, pianos, sheet music, rentals, repairs, accessories, and private and group lessons.
Today, our third-generation family-owned business serves musicians, educators, and families across five Wisconsin communities. Explore our store locations in Appleton, Green Bay, Stevens Point, Oshkosh, and Madison.
At every age and stage, our knowledgeable team helps people find the right instrument, develop their skills, and connect with their musical community. By supporting music education and expanding access to instruments and instruction, we help make the beat possible.
