What Makes a Steinway, a Steinway?

The wide-tail design creates 6% more surface area in the soundboard, giving the pianist the impression of playing on a larger piano.

A low-tension string scale design results in a longer life of the whole piano, as well as a richer tone, more sustain, power, and a dynamic range by allowing more of the lower partials to sing.

Steinway uses all wood action parts, as wood helps determine the characteristic feel. Because of the nature of the piano tone, natural resonance of all parts has an ultimate effect on the tone.

Steinway & Sons' patented duplex scaling in all three models adds harmonic dimension and longer sustain to the tone. When a piano string is set in vibration, partials or overtones are produced simultaneously with the fundamental tone. The end result is a fuller, richer, more powerful tone.

Every Boston or Essex is backed by the Steinway Promise. If you decide to trade your Boston or Essex piano for a new Steinway & Sons grand piano at any time within ten years, you will receive a trade-in credit equal to the original purchase price of your Boston or Essex piano.

Steinway pianos have established a history of legendary financial appreciation over the course of more than a century and a half. Owning a Steinway piano is a rare opportunity to invest in beauty, craftsmanship, endurance, performance and joy.

The incomparable sound and touch of the handmade Steinway pianos have created an inseparable relationship with the world's most gifted artists. An astonishing 98% of today's concert pianists perform exclusively on Steinway pianos. Although they are not paid to do so.

Fill your home with the enjoyment that no one can put a price on.
