Ken Skitch, Senior Repair Technician

Ken Skitch graduated from Queens University in Kingston, Canada with a BM in trombone performance and composition. Ken then went on to receive a repair certificate from Allied Music Corporation in Elkhorn, WI. Ken is a member of NAPBIRT and has been with them since 1982. Ken likes to preform as well as repair instruments. He is the Co-leader of Big Band Reunion, member of Vic Ferrari Symphony on the Rocks, STEEM, and HD Horns. In his spare time, Ken likes to do anything outdoors, whether that is kayaking, biking, or even yard work. Notably, Ken has repaired and made custom modifications to many professors and local musicians as well as professionals including but not limited to Clark Terry, Roger Rosenberg of Steely Dan, and Kevin Esposito of Brian Setzer Orchestra.
Ken has received special lathe training from Gateway College.

Tim Arendt graduated from Minnesota State College Southeast Red Wing Campus in band instrument repair. After graduating from college, Tim went to Tucson, Arizona, to work for Muller Music Center. While there, he ran a repair shop. In 1990, he brought his experience to Heid Music where he specializes in woodwind repair. Tim’s favorite things to do in his down time include cycling, smoking/grilling food, and spending time outdoors.

James Ninnemann received his education and certification in instrument repair from Minnesota State College Southeast, Red Wing Campus. Jim plays in DORF KAPELLE, a regional German Blaskapelle, founded in 1988. Jim has been providing repair services throughout the Green Bay and the Fox Valley area since 1993.

Carl Rasmussen graduated from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors of Music Education, and from Baylor University with a Masters in Music. Carl is a member of NAPBIRT and also a member of his local church orchestra. You can find Carl in his spare time hunting, fishing, repairing cars, or piano tuning. Carl prides himself in coming from a teaching background, where his is pleased to offer a "beyond repair" service to all his customers. This could include music coaching, technical approach to playing, or tone production among many others.

Robert Rewalt is a self-taught instrument repair technician. He has had a lot of on the job training with mentoring from several longtime repair personnel here at Heid Music. Some of Bob’s favorite activities outside of the repair shop include camping with his wife, fishing, playing music at home, jam sessions with other musicians, and riding his motorcycle. Bob used to be a gigging musician for several decades and can regal you with different tales from that era.

Chris Felts graduated from the University of Oshkosh with a degree in Music. From there, Chris graduated from the Minnesota State College Southeast Red Wing Campus in band repair. Chris is a member of multiple professional organizations including NAPBIRT, NASA, ICA, and AMIS. A performer and lesson teacher as well as a repair technician, Chris currently plays with Vic Ferrari’s Symphony on the Rocks, STEEM, and Big Band Reunion. In his spare time, Chris enjoys collecting, restoring, and preforming on vintage saxophones. Chris enjoys repairing and customizing instruments for professional musicians, music professors, college music students, and youngsters learning to play "Hot Cross Buns.”
Chris has received special training to work on high end woodwind instrument repairs and is a certified Straubinger pad technician.
Marty Vajgrt, Repair Technician

Martin Vajgrt received a degree in instrumental performance from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. He specializes working with large brass - restoration and custom work on tubas, euphoniums, sousaphones, and trombones. He is trained in hand engraving and engraving restoration. Marty is a member of the professional organization NAPBIRT. He is also an organist at St. Mary and St. John Parish in Menasha, WI, and is also a pianist for the MacDowell Male Chorus. In his time off, Marty likes to do small woodworking projects and riding and working on his motorcycle.
Daniel Ozsvath, Repair Technician

Daniel Ozsvath graduated from the Minnesota Southeast Technical College Red Wing Campus, and received his diploma in band instrument repair. His skill set includes repairing brass and woodwind instruments, with an emphasis on flutes. He continues to advance his repair knowledge through conferences and on-the-job training. In his down time, Danny likes to go backpacking, roasting coffee, and woodworking.
Danny is a certified Straubinger Pad Technician, has studied at Flute Authority and has attended multiple NAPBIRT Conferences.
Kara McCanna, Luthier

Kara McCanna is a professional violinist, luthier, and appraiser. While attending the Chicago School of Violin Making, she simultaneously graduated from the Appraisers Association of America Comprehensive Appraisal Studies Program and Northwestern University with a certificate in Museum Studies. In May of 2020, she graduated summa cum laude from the Violin Repair program at Minnesota State College Southeast Red Wing Campus and was one of ten recipients nationwide to be awarded a historic instrument loan from the Hardanger Fiddle Association of America. Kara is a member of the International Society of Folk Harpers and Craftsmen, British Violin Making Association, Violin Society of America, Appraisers Association of America, Hardanger Fiddle Association of America, and the Guild of American Luthiers. In her spare time, Kara loves to travel and write and make music with her husband. They are currently recording an album of original hardingfele and Sámi drum music.
Harry Ballard, Luthier

Harry began his training at a violin shop in Appleton at 15 years old. He completed one year at The New World School of Violin Making in Presque Isle, Wisconsin and then moved to an apprenticeship at John K. Becker & Co. in Chicago. Harry began playing the viola at age 9, and later learned piano, violin, mandolin and guitar. Harry began working with Heid Music in 2017. While Harry enjoys camping and music with his wife and daughter, his wife does not enjoy watching movies with him; Harry has a tendency to pause the movie to analyze the movie score or to pick up an instrument and play along.

Brian Wojtowicz graduated from Minnesota State College Southeast Red Wing Campus with an associates degree in band instrument repair. Before graduating, Brian has played trumpet in Army bands for over 20 years. Today, Brian plays in the Neenah community band along with his dedicated work at Heid Music.
Ilsa Reed, Luthier

Ilsa graduated from the Chicago School of Violin Making in 2016. She worked for several different shops around the Chicago area before returning to her home town in Madison. Ilsa is especially interested in bows and has been learning bow repairs with Kenneth Stein Violins since 2017. She also apprenticed under Will Whedbee during this same time where she learned more about violin making. She is excited to start this new phase of her violin career. As a Madison native, Ilsa was a student in many Madison music organizations including Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra and Suzuke Strings of Madison. In 2020, she played with the East Side Music Ensemble. Ilsa currently plays fiddle in the all women's bluegrass band Strings to Roam, and is heavily involved with local theater. She also enjoys backpacking, biking and a good book. Ilsa was a Violin Society of America Scholarship winner in 2016.
