The Music Matters Initiative

Music Education Matters.

Join the initiative. Heid Music is matching up to $10,000 of your donations.

Did you know?

The benefits of music education are far-reaching, from better grades and improved self-esteem to increased memory and overall happiness.

For example, a recent study on standardized testing in Wisconsin revealed that instrumental music statistically boosts a high-school student's ACT Aspire scores in English, science, reading and math.

Instrumental music study:

  • 1 year: 5% increase
  • 2 years: 8% increase
  • 3 years: 19% increase

Heid Music continues to believe in and support music education in the community. That's why we bring awareness to music education through the Music Matters Initiative.

We're matching up to $10,000!

During Music in Our Schools Month (March 1-31), we will match donations of $5 or more (up to $10,000 total), with in-store credit. School districts will then receive the cash donations plus up to $500 of in-store credit (per district) to use toward Heid Music products and services.

To make a donation, visit your local Heid Music.

Questions? We anticipated a few might come up, so we created this handy Frequently Asked Questions document to help clarify The Music Matters Initiative guidelines. If you still have questions, email us at

*Donors will also be recognized throughout the stores. Matching donation valid for school districts in Northeastern, Central and South Central Wisconsin, as well as the Upper Peninsula.

More Ways We're Supporting Music in Our Schools Month

During Music in Our Schools Month (March 1-31), Heid Music has partnered with top vendors to bring valuable musical prizes to area school music programs.

Here's how the Big10+ competition works:

Music directors and their students are encouraged to tell us, in their own words, what music education means to them. They can submit their comments, along with a photo of their music programs in action, by:

  1. Visiting or (click on "Big10+ Contest 2018")
  2. Posting on their own Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages, using #Big10Music and tagging @HeidMusic

Then, everyone — friends, family members, coworkers and more — is invited to vote on their favorite entries (one per Facebook user per day) through March 31.

The school music program with the most votes at the end of the competition will get the chance to choose first among the prizes, and so on until all prizes have been claimed.
