Why is it shaped like a cello?
The Tourte Style Shaped Cello Mute has a waist shape so that when it sits on either the D or G string, it doesn't interfere with the strings on either side of it. It produces a more subtle muting effect than the round traditional standard mute. The shaped mute has a more direct muting effect on the tone, depending on where it is sited on the bridge.
