Nearly $4,000 Raised During "Keys For A Cause"
Nearly $4,000 was raised by ten Fox Valley Music Teachers and forty-one students at a day-long play-a-thon, called “Keys For A Cause” at Harmony Café, Appleton, Wisconsin on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013.
Most of the money was raised by students via prior pledges but additional “tips” during the 12-hour entertainment added to the coffers. Nearly $2,000 is designated for FVMTA student scholarships with the remaining 50% divided between Goodwill Industries (in partnership with Harmony Café) and FVMTA events. In accordance with its mission, FVMTA has awarded annual scholarship aid to area music students for the greater part of its 38-year existence. (See FVMTA.org/programs/scholarship.)
The student garnering the most donations earned gift cards to the Fox River Mall and to Heid Music Company. Students of Bruce Koestner and Sue Wurzer earned the top prizes.
Heid Music Company, Appleton provided a lovely Yamaha U1 piano for the festive event, Badger Sports Park provided free sports park passes for all performers and Bouwer Printing, Appleton, WI is credited with a generous printing discount.
FVMTA member Sue Wurzer, single-handedly chaired the event from its inception, wearing the “hat” of promoter/producer, prize procurer, registrant and sponsor coordinator, among other duties!
“Keys For A Cause” was initiated several years ago and has been an annual event, varying in scope from year to year.
