Our Growing Family

Peter “Duke” Heid founded Heid Music in 1948, selling musical instruments and encouraging schools to offer music education. He is widely credited with bringing music and music education to the Fox Cities. More than 60 years and three generations later, Heid Music is the leading music emporium in Wisconsin with music stores in Appleton (est. 1948), Green Bay (est. 1979), Madison (est. 2011), Oshkosh (est. 2010) and Wisconsin Rapids (est. 1986).

Today many members of the Heid family make their careers in the family business—Todd Heid, president; Paul Heid, past president; Kim Heid-Mantey, operations & Heid Family Foundation; Bob Heid, Heid Family Foundation and DeDe Heid, marketing director. For the Heid family, making and supporting music is truly a family endeavor!

Repair Family

Heid is privileged to have a staff of skilled and respected repair technicians on-site at our stores. They have the expertise to repair your instrument and get it back into top playing condition. International musicians send their prized instruments to Heid for repair and our master technicians provide training throughout the country. In addition, our repair technicians work closely with our in-school representatives, ensuring the highest quality repairs and workmanship for all instruments.

Community Family

The Heid Family Foundation was established in 1993 and has given more than $2 million to local and state schools, churches and charities with musical needs that fall within our mission. An important part of the foundation is the Piano Bank—a program designed to give economically challenged children in our area the opportunity to develop their musical talent by providing a piano and/or tuition for lessons. The goal of the Piano Bank is to reach children who otherwise might not have the opportunity to study piano.

Since 1948 Heid Music owners and staff have been ingrained in our communities. Many are music majors and local musicians in addition to holding positions on symphony boards, PAC boards, school boards and other various arts organizations and schools.

Other community events supported by Heid Music and the Heid team include: Doctors in Recital, School of Rock, Heid Music Concert Series in downtown Appleton, seminars and clinics for everyone from beginners to seasoned professionals and music educators.

The Heid Music piano department is one of only a few in the country that offers both Steinway family designed pianos and a full portfolio of Yamaha pianos. With five locations we have the largest selection of new, used and consignment pianos in the state. We also rent digital, acoustic and grand pianos in many sizes (including our Steinway D concert piano) to give you options that best suit your needs and budget.

To support solo & ensemble needs, we offer the highest quality products to schools—including a variety of Yamaha acoustic and digital pianos. Our goal is to bring institutions and schools whatever is required to exceed your musical goals. We do this by offering inventory analysis, piano lab programs, fund raising, buy-a-key support tools and much more.
