HEID MUSIC'S HISTORY IS BASED ON MUSIC EDUCATION

Music education has been a priority at Heid Music since the very beginning in 1948. Founder of Heid Music, Peter “Duke” Heid, wanted to do more than sell musical instruments. Duke wanted to bring music and music education to the Fox Cities. Duke passed away in late 2009, yet his legacy lives on in each student whose
life is somehow touched by music.

Heid Music Teacher Spotlight
Heid Music highlights one music instructor a month to showcase our talented teachers and their passion for music.

Bobbi X.This Month's Teacher is
Bobbi Rohrs

My name is Bobbi Rohrs and I am a licensed instrumental music teacher. During my time at UW-Stevens Point, I played horn in the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Jazz Ensemble. I also played bassoon and clarinet in the Campus Band. As a hornist, my quartet was selected as the 2004 Alice Peet Faust Concerto Competition winner. I currently play horn in the Wisconsin Rapids City Band, and sing in the Monteverdi Chorale and UCC Choir. I previously taught 6th grade band and junior high lessons for WRPS. I welcome all beginning through intermediate wind instrument players, and teach early childhood music and beginning piano lessons. All ages are welcome!

Favorite Instrument and why: This is a tough one! As a band director, I enjoy teaching all of them, but I have to pick the horn as my favorite since that is my main instrument.

Best tip you can offer a beginning music student: Listen, listen, listen! Listen to professionals on your instrument or voice type. Having a beautiful and characteristic sound is the most important first step a student should strive for.

Favorite moment in your musical career: Performing as guest performers with the UWSP Symphony Orchestra for my horn quartet winning the Alice Peet Faust Concerto Competition.

Favorite teaching moment(s): Wow! There have been so many. Some of my favorite moments are right after we finish playing a piece, I can see the excitement in students' eyes and they literally can't hold themselves back from saying, "WOW! That was SO awesome! We are really playing great!"

Favorite thing(s) to do in your spare time: Travel! I have been to many countries in Europe, studied in London in 2006, and taught English in Japan for a little while. I also love watching the Packers play, spending time with my fiance and our dog, Ella, and watching movies.
